The future of Harrow's ambitious plans to consult the borough's ethnic communities hangs in the balance after angry scenes at last week's Community Liason Consultative Committee meeting.
Amid rowdy scenes, ethnic members of the committee slammed councillors for what they alleged was their failure fully to consult community leaders and see through the implementation of the committee's decisions.
The already charged atmosphere at the meeting was sparked off when Cllr John Anderson incensed ethnic members of the committee saying they were wasting time since the group's formation a year ago.
"Its a stupidity and nonsense because people are wasting time in stupid politics. I am very upset, angry and disappointed," he said.
This prompt an angry retort from committee member Pravin Shah. He alleged that "it is the council which is wasting time of the community. It is you is wasting our time! You councillors get your allowances for attending this meeting: We are wasting our time!"
