Officers of the Education Department of Harrow Council have been working since mid-August on preparations to meet the extra demand for school places which is likely to occur with the arrival of Ugandan Asians in the borough.
This information was given to Harrow Education Committee at its meeting on Tuesday by Cllr. Leslie Wagner (Lab., Queensbury), the chairman.
He said he felt it would be appropiate to bring the committee up-to-date on the Ugandan Asian situation as it affected the education authority in Harrow - even though at that stage there was not much to report.
"The policy of this council was stated by the Policy and Resources Commitee when it met at the end of August and agreed that the council would accept its proper and proportionate responsibilites." he went on.
